Lawrence Leaving!

As many of you know, I am a big Mizzou Tiger fan. Over the weekend I learned that one of my favorite Tigers to watch is leaving. Keon Lawrence, who would have been a junior at Mizzou, is transferring closer to New Jersey home. Lawrence was expected to be a key contributor at shooting guard next season, but he said he wasn't happy at Mizzou and left because of family reasons. I really enjoyed watching Keon, although he was pretty streaky, play the game. At anytime he could put up big numbers like when he poured in 25 at Kansas last year or when he lead Mizzou to a upset win in Stillwater his freshman year. I am disappointed that Keon is leaving but am still optimistic for the upcoming year.

Mizzou has a good shot at making the NCAA tournament next year as they return 4 of their 5 starters from last year. With Demarre Carrol healthy and if Leo Lyons can build upon his junior campaign, Mizzou could have one of the better front courts in the Big 12. Mizzou also has Sophomore Justin Safford, who showed signs of progress his freshman year, and they will add big men Laurence Bowers, Keith Ramsey and Steve Moore to the mix, although Moore is probably a few years away from a serious contribution.

Although Mizzou's backcourt will be somewhat inexperience they should be solid. JT Tiller and Matt Lawrence return and will be joined by a slew of newcomers. The newcomers expected to contribute are Deleware transfer Zaire Taylor and freshman Marcus Denmon, Migual Paul, and Kim English. Mizzou will have a mix of youth and experience which hopefully will translate into a solid season and an invite to the Big Dance.
